About
Our history
Rugby League was introduced in the Cook Islands in the early 80s and the first international game was against Niue in 1986. The code grew rapidly, winning the Emerging Nations in 1995 and qualifying for the World Cup in 2000. CIRLA next qualified for the World Cup 2013 for the men, 2017 for the women and the Rugby League World Cup 2022 for men and women.

our logo
The logo intricately weaves together symbolic elements to encapsulate the essence of our identity and mission.
At its core, the wave motif, gracefully crafted within an oval ball, embodies the vast expanse of the ocean that we traverse, symbolizing our journey and exploration. Within this maritime narrative, the cross emerges as a steadfast emblem of faith, with the Southern Cross serving as both a guiding light and a navigational marker for our endeavors. AITU, denoting a collective of warriors of the ocean, resonates with the spirit of resilience and courage, embodying our readiness to confront challenges head-on. Emphasizing the theme of warfare, the spear motif emerges as a potent symbol of our determination and preparedness in the face of adversity. Transitioning from the waves of the ocean to the battlefield, the V shape embodies the ethos of rugby league, portraying the competitive format of battle where strength and strategy converge. Finally, the Te tikitiki tangata motif, intricately woven into the design, pays homage to our people, grounding the logo in the rich cultural heritage and collective identity that fuels our endeavors. Together, these elements converge to form a powerful emblem that encapsulates our journey, faith, warrior spirit, and cultural legacy.
