The National Library of Medicine|National Center for Biotechnology Information published an article about Anti-cancer and medicinal potentials of moringa compound isothiocyanate, conducted by the Laboratory of Cancer Biology and Epigenetics of Shantou University Medical College claiming that “Isothiocyanates (ITCs) from Moringa oleifera are one class of its active substances that can inhibit cancer proliferation and promote cancer cell apoptosis through multiple signalling pathways, thus curbing cancer migration and metastasis, at the same time they have little adverse effect on normal cells.
Studies have shown that MIC-1 moringa isothiocyanate has the possibility to be used clinically for the treatment of diabetes, neurologic diseases, obesity, ulcerative colitis, and several cancer types.
Studies have demonstrated that M. oleifera leaves are beneficial for several chronic diseases, including hypercholesterolemia, hypertension, diabetes, insulin resistance, non-alcoholic liver disease, cancer, and overall inflammation.”
“The leaves are rich in minerals, vitamins and other essential phytochemicals. Extracts from the leaves are used to treat malnutrition, augment breast milk in lactating mothers. It is used as potential antioxidant, anticancer, anti-inflammatory, antidiabetic and antimicrobial agent. The scientific effort of this research provides insights on the use of moringa as a cure for diabetes and cancer and fortification of moringa in commercial products”, Food Science and Human Wellness 5 (2016) 49-56
“Phytomedicines are believed to have benefits over conventional drugs and are regaining interest in current research. Moringa oleifera is a multi-purpose herbal plant used as human food and an alternative for medicinal purposes worldwide. It has been identified by researchers as a plant with numerous health benefits including nutritional and medicinal advantages. An important factor that accounts for the medicinal uses of Moringa oleifera is its very wide range of vital antioxidants, antibiotics and nutrients including vitamins and minerals. It is proven in numerous cases that Moringa oleifera tree possesses a wide range of medicinal and therapeutic properties. For instance, the general nutrition contents of the Moringa views up to several specific remedial properties including its anti-fibrotic, anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, anti-hyperglycemic, antioxidant, anti-tumour and anti-cancer properties.” Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prev, 15 (20), 8571-8576.
